The Readjustment Counseling Therapist primary responsibility is to provide therapy and readjustment counseling to all eligible combat veterans and their family members, as well as, veterans who experienced sexual harassment/assault during military service. These counseling and therapeutic services will range from routine to complex and include suicide prevention, crisis intervention and short and long term treatment with clients exhibiting post-traumatic stress disorder, with or without other psychiatric disorders and/or readjustment problems. The breadth of clients encountered and problems exhibited necessitates that the incumbent eclectically select and implement a variety of psychological, rehabilitation, social work, counseling and mental health techniques. The incumbent exercises full professional responsibility to provide effective services including, but not limited to, individual, group, conjoint, vocational, educational, substance abuse and readjustment counseling. The incumbent must possess a high degree of clinical skill, including the unique skills needed to work with eligible veterans and their significant others. In addition, the incumbent must possess the capability to perform the administrative tasks required in a community-based office, of a program with unique working relationships with a wide range of VA facilities and community organizations. Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid state driver license for the purpose of driving GSA vehicles. Some travel, to include over-nights, may be required to attend training, conferences, and official meetings.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. It may require some lifting (10-20 Ibs.) occasionally. Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09 level.

Examples of specialized experience: supervised counseling staff providing service to veterans or similar clients either as part of an interdisciplinary medical team or as part of a rehabilitation services group; performed duties of a Readjustment Counseling Therapist, Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist, Employment Specialist, or similar work.
TIME-IN-GRADE RESTRICTIONS: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. In accordance with the time-in-grade requirements outlined in 5 CFR, Part 300, Subpart F, you must have one (1) time-in-grade at the GS-09 level or higher.
