The APN is responsible for providing and coordinating patient care for the hematology/oncology services and outpatient clinics. The role requires autonomous decision making based on a knowledge of nursing and hematology / oncology disease, where indicated.
Aspects of the role include but are not limited to:
The effective use of the nursing process components of assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation and evaluation in the specialty practice setting.
Acquires knowledge and skills to maintain expertise in hematology/oncology.
Participates in educational activities to improve clinical knowledge and enhance role performance as well as predicting new knowledge needs to meet the changing practice environment for populations of patients and the nursing community at large. The nurse plans, implements and evaluates strategies to meet those needs.

Physical Requirements: This position requires Heavy Lifting, 45 pounds& over; heavy carrying, 45 pounds& over; straight pulling (4 hours); pushing (4 hours); use of fingers; both hands required; walking & standing 8-12 hours; repeated bending 8 hours; both legs required; ability for rapid mental & muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable @ 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; depth perception; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aide permitted). Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.

Education/Experience Requirements: Nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body, and an Oncology nursing certification.
Preferred Experience: BSN required, also might have ARNP with prescriptive authority, master's degree in nursing or related field.
