The Alexandria VA Health Care System is seeking Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) to provide service to the Alexandria VA Health Care System at the Lake Charles Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) at the Lake Charles CBOC is responsible for the performance and coordination of all diagnostic radiology examinations. Exams are performed with and without the use of contrast materials. The DRT prepares contrast materials for the purpose of performing exams such as IV Pyelograms (IVP)and the purpose of performing oral and rectal exams of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Maintain effective supervisory control of radiology area by coordinating, planning, organizing, and executing the work potential to expedite work flow patterns within the departments. The DRT is responsible for radiographic equipment cleaning and warm-up. Monitors proper operations of work list and image transfer to Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). Proper working order of all x-ray equipment, reporting problems to supervisor or Bio-Med. Receives and interprets all radiology requests. Responsible for explaining exams to competent patients in terms the patient will comprehend. May periodically be called upon to perform these duties at alternative facilities within Alexandria VA Health Care System. From time-to-time will have additional professional Imaging Service duties assigned.
Work Schedule: 8:00am to 4:30pm

Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R).
Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate's degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from schools accredited by the ARRT and certification by the ARRT in radiology.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Grade Determinations:
The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-08. The Professional Standards Board (PSB) will review the selected candidate's education and experience and recommend the grade and step at which the candidate will be placed. The salary is based on the grade and step approved by the PSB.
