As a world-renowned leader in aviation safety, the Associate Administrator for Aviation is responsive to the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) strides in transforming the National Airspace System (NAS) through the implementation of Next Generation Air Transportation System technologies and the use of a Safety Management System as industry business changes, technological advances and the need for greater global harmonization of air traffic management systems are addressed.
As a direct report to the FAA Administrator, this position serves as the highest ranking office in the Aviation Safety organization. This position provides leadership to eight Services and Offices, including aircraft certification, flight standards, aerospace medicine, safety oversight, accident prevention and investigation, unmanned aircraft systems, quality management and rulemaking. Specifically, the position provides executive leadership and sets strategic direction for the agency's aviation safety and change management initiatives, maintains close and continual contact with Congressional representatives, U.S. Armed Forces leadership, other federal, state and local government stakeholders, the aviation industry, and the international aviation community in order to present and defend Department of Transportation and FAA positions with respect to aviation safety programs and rulemaking actions and provides executive leadership for the review and evaluation of program goals, recommending action to correct deficiencies and improve program performance.
