The Supervisory Diagnostic Radiology Technologist (DRT) is responsible for the overall Radiology Service operation. The incumbent manages a radiology program that performs highly complex diagnostic testing for veteran patients. He/she directly supervises the technologists, and other support staff in the department. Incumbent works closely with the radiologist, technologists, clinicians and clerical staff to assure optimum quality control, efficient coordination of activities, high quality diagnostic exam results, and patient satisfaction.
Incumbent provides technical, professional, and administrative oversight of the Radiology Service budget, space, human resources, technical equipment, supply projections, policy writing, and imaging reports for the department. The incumbent is the principal advisor to top management on clinically oriented issues and serves as liaison between Radiology Service and other Medical Center Services.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS: In addition to meeting the basic requirements, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of the candidate:

Experience: At least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level.
Assignment: Functions as a supervisor for a group of DRTs which may include support staff. Evaluates new products and equipment, making recommendations to supervisor concerning upgrades/new purchases that would improve operations. Informs higher level management of anticipated staffing variances and informally recommends promotions, reassignments, or other personnel changes such as retention or release of probationary employees, and recommending recognition of superior performance in the diagnostic radiologic area. Directs the development and implementation of services and treatment to patients through the supervision, mentoring, and oversight of assigned clinical staff. Experience must demonstrate practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment.
