The applicants selected will be offered a position in the FDIC Internship Program with the Division of Risk Management Supervision. The FDIC’s Financial Institution Intern Program provides high-performing college students with valuable professional experience in the financial regulatory industry. The program provides an excellent opportunity for participants to gain hands-on experience evaluating bank operations, risk management strategies, and consumer protection practices. Interns will learn in-depth banking laws and regulatory procedures while working with experienced FDIC professionals to ensure institutions are following safe and sound banking practices. In this unique program, participants will have an opportunity to participate in on-site bank examinations and understand supervisory proceedings. This requires team-orientated individuals with strong analytical and quantitative skills who possess the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
This program requires employment around school schedule (summer and other school breaks), and may require student intern to delay graduation in order to meet program eligibility for possible conversion to a permanent position as a Financial Institution Specialist. Management and potential employee should discuss schedule during interview process.
The applicants selected will be offered a position in the FDIC Internship Program. After successful completion of the program requirements and based on the FDIC’s needs, the selectees may be non-competitively converted to a Term position as a Financial Institution Specialist based upon an evaluation of performance,completion of at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program, and a skills assessment. However, service in the Financial Institution Internship Program confers no right to further employment in the competitive or excepted service.
Salary stated above is per year. Salary earned will be based on actual time worked. Per hour salary is $19.25.
NOTE: The incumbent filling the Tulsa OK Field Office will have a large percentage of training in the Oklahoma City OK Field Office.

Most interns will work directly on teams with experienced FDIC employees to evaluate bank operations, business planning, risk management strategies, and consumer protection practices during a period in which banks are still recovering from the stress of the recent financial crisis. These teams are responsible for assessing financial institutions to determine whether they are following safe and sound banking practices, maintaining effective controls and procedures, managing their institutions effectively, and complying with all applicable laws and regulations, including those relating to consumer protection, privacy, community reinvestment, and fair lending.
Moderate Risk Position - Minimum Background Investigation (MBI) required.
Extensive travel may be required as bank examinations are conducted on-site at banks, sometimes at great distance from the FDIC office. Interns are reimbursed for travel expenses, but are responsible for their own transportation to bank examination sites where public transportation may not be available.
Interns will be responsible for providing their own housing, but will receive a one-time $2500 stipend (in addition to bi-weekly salary) at the beginning of the program.
Relocation expenses will not be paid.
If selected, you may be required to serve a trial period.
All selectees must sign a Pathways Participant Agreement.
To be eligible for conversion to the competitive service, you must complete 640 hours of work experience; meet the OPM qualification standards for the target position, which includes six (6) semester hours in accounting coursework; meet the requirements of the FDIC Pathways Agreement and successfully perform; and complete various skills assessments.
