The VA Boston Healthcare System, Radiology Service currently has an intermittent Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist position open. The incumbent will be responsible for providing coverage at West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, Brockton and Bedford as needed. The incumbent will be providing services in specialized areas of radiologic technology and/or general radiology technology services. These procedures are performed in the Urology suite, GI suite, Outpatient Radiology (OREA) and Operating Room.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
-Receiving requests or instructions for procedures.
-Prioritizing requisitions as to room availability, stat calls from intensive care units, emergency room and operating room.
-Performing procedures in the main and outpatient departments such as:
-Preparing contrast materials under the direction of the radiologist for the purpose of performing exams requiring injectable solutions

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires a moderate amount of physical activity working with the equipment and maneuvering patients. Eye/hand coordination. Full use of arms, hands and wrists. Transport, lift, lower, move, turn heavy objects and/or patients. Color vision and depth perception: Must be able to differentiate subtle shades of gray on a diagnostic image. Must also respond to audio signals. Standing, sitting, or reaching for extended periods of time.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
a. Citizenship. Citizen of the United States.
b. Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R). NOTE: You must submit proof of certifications with your complete application package.
c. Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate's degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), and certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiology.
d. English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d).
GRADE DETERMINATION:
GS-05 DRT (Entry Level): Experience or Education. None beyond the basic requirements.
GS-06 DRT (Developmental Level): Experience or Education. At least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level or the successful completion of a 4-year baccalaureate degree program in radiography or other directly related field to diagnostic radiology/imaging. Creditable experience at the next lower level includes operating and monitoring commonly used equipment performing routine procedures under normal supervision. The technician functions somewhat independently in carrying out these standardized procedures of limited complexity. Deviations from regular procedures, unanticipated problems, and unfamiliar situations are referred to the supervisor for a decision or help. Some assignments at this level also include developmental duties involving more complex procedures designed to prepare the technician for promotion to higher grades in a functional area. Such duties would be performed under closer supervision.

2. Knowledge of anatomy and positioning.

GS-07 DRT (Advanced Development Level): Experience or Education. At least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level or the successful completion of 1 full academic year of graduate education leading to a degree program in radiography or other directly related field to diagnostic radiology/imaging. Education may relate to the duties of a specific position or to the occupation, but must be appropriate for the position being filled. Creditable experience includes performing a substantially full range of duties but receive guidance and directions regarding unfamiliar or unusual situations for more complex patient issues. Candidates at this grade level may be qualified to provide services in specialized areas of radiologic technology and/or general radiologic technology services.

GS-08 DRT (Full Performance Level): Experience. At least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level. Creditable experience includes providing services in specialized areas of radiologic technology and/or general radiologic technology services.

A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience as a DRT is creditable according to its relationship to the full-time workweek. For example, a DRT would receive 1 week of full-time credit for each 2 weeks of half-time work.
