BASIC QUALIFICATIONS FOR BIOLOGICAL SCIENTIST (ENVIRONMENTAL) GS-0401:
A. Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, environmental science, or other disciplines closely related to this position. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.
OR
B. A combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major (as based on the requirements of the university or college attended, or if this information cannot be obtained, 24 semester hours or equivalent), as shown in "A" above, plus appropriate experience or additional education related to this position. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position, and be comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER, GS-0819:
A. Successfully completed a Bachelor's degree or higher in professional engineering. Your curriculum is in a school of engineering with at least one engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.
OR
B. Successfully completed a Bachelor's Degree or higher in professional engineering. The curriculum included differential and integral calculus. The curriculum also included courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in 5 of the 7 following areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships; (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electric fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.
OR
C. You do not have a Bachelor's degree in professional engineering, however, you have completed 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical and engineering sciences, and in engineering that included the courses specified in B above. The courses were fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering program. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.
OR
D. You have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field such as engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology AND you have at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. This must include either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. OR
E. Successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Note: You must submit documentation of having passed the examination.
OR
F. Currently registered as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. This registration must have been obtained by written test OR be in general engineering or a directly related engineering field and was gained by State grandfather or eminence provisions NOTE: You must submit copies of your current registration.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS FOR PHYSICAL SCIENTIST (ENVIRONMENTAL) GS-1301:
A. Successfully completed a degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.
OR
B. A combination of education and experience, including education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS FOR COMMUNITY PLANNER (ENVIRONMENTAL) GS-0020:
A. Successfully completed a degree in community planning; or related field such as urban affairs, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, sociology, geography, economics, political science, or public administration that included at least 12 semester hours in the planning process, socioeconomic and physical elements of planning, urban and regional economic analysis, and development finance. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.
OR
B. A combination of education and experience, including courses equivalent to a major in one of the above disciplines, or a combination of related courses totaling at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the above disciplines of which at least 12 semester hours were in the planning process, and socioeconomic and physical elements of planning, plus appropriate experience or additional education. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts.
**AND THE ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT FOR ALL SERIES:**
You must have at least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility at the GS-11 grade level providing professional environmental quality project management relating to one of three major environmental programs: Environmental Quality, Natural and Cultural Resources and Environmental Restorations. Examples of qualifying specialized experience must include: evaluating military installation (or equivalent sized organization) environmental practices to protect and/or improve air, land, and water resources; providing advisory planning and technical guidance on environmental projects and programs; partner with design engineers to ensure environmental requirements are incorporated into the planning, design, and construction of new projects; as well as monitoring compliance with environmental protection guidelines, regulations and laws. Note: Your resume must fully support this experience in order to be found qualified based on this option.
