· Serves as shipyards technical expert in NDT.
· Monitor NDT personnel providing feedback on NDT inspectors' weaknesses to both the NDT Inspector and the NDT inspection code.
· Exercises control of factors related to the quality of the NDT program including: continuous review of assigned areas to ensure shipyard rules are adequate and NAVSEA requirements are being met.
· Develops and implements quality control procedures and review technical procedures from other organizations pertaining to nuclear and non-nuclear nondestructive testing.
· Obtains NDT Level III certification in surface NDT inspection methods (Visual/Dimensional, Liquid Penetrant and Magnetic Particle) and at least one volumetric NDT inspection method (Radiography, Ultrasonic or Eddy Current inspection methods).
The duties and responsibilities at the GS-11 levels are essentially the same as those at the full performance level except the incumbent is under close supervision and receives more detailed instructions. This position has known promotion potential to GS-12.
Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
Physical Demands: The position requires frequent trips to industrial environments such as inspection area, work area and shipboard.
The position require extended periods of walking, stooping, bending, crawling and climbing ladders to observe work operations.
Work Environment: Incumbent may be required to work in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (fumes, dust, noise, lead, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals).

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has a selective placement factor needed in order to qualify. The actual Selective Placement Factor is: Certification in Nondestructive Test Methods and experience in visual/dimensional, liquid penetrant or magnetic particle inspections and must have experience in either the radiography, ultrasonic or eddy current inspection methods. Failure to possess this factor WILL result in an ineligible rating. Possession of the factor must be verifiable via your resume.
