This Engineering Equipment Operator position is located at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery located in Dallas, TX. The incumbent is responsible for operating a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered engineering equipment in a variety of terrains to push, pull, pile, and load sand, gravel, earth, topsoil, and other materials.

Requires
skill in the use of backhoe operations to excavate multiple graves
without disturbing remains, headstones, or markers on adjacent
gravesites. Also requires knowledge and skill to operate equipment
without injury to self or others on slopes and muddy ground. Requires
skill and knowledge to attach, detach, replace and operate a wide
variety of powered attachments and tools such as augers, dozer blades,
and forklifts. The operator reads and deciphers maps, blueprints,
drawings, and plans that show the location of past and future burial
plots and remains. Work requires detailed knowledge of cemetery burial
processes and protocols and sensitivity to care for the needs of family
members and other mourners.

Work Schedule:
May be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends.
Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for
more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal
holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that
holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year.
Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary
to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the
facility to perform emergency overtime work.

NOTE: This position is not to exceed 180 days. It may be extended up to one year or converted to permanent without further competition.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Heavy physical effort is required to stand, reach, bend, turn, and move hands,
arms, and legs. Considerable strain is caused by constant vibration of
equipment and jerking and jolting over rough surfaces. Operator is
frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions, occasionally
required to lift heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds and may be exposed to
noise levels exceeding 85 dba.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works outside in all kinds of weather. In addition,
when operating vehicles, drives in all types of weather and traffic and is exposed
to the possibility of accidents. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in
all types of weather. Incumbent is exposed to heat, cold, wind, dirt, dust,
mud, and water in the performance of the duties of this position.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume.
