As a Clinical Psychologist assigned to the Bradenton CBOC, Bay Pines Veterans Affairs Health Care System (BPVAHCS), functioning within the auspices of the Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences Service (MH&BSS), the incumbent is expected to independently provide psychological services and consultation with supervisors and peers, as appropriate. Clinical Psychologists diagnose mental health conditions, conduct psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments, treat mental health conditions through a variety of modalities, and provide adjunctive interventions in the treatment of medical conditions. These modalities include, but are not limited to, individual, family, and group psychotherapies, psycho-educational, and other interventions such as biofeedback, psychological hypnosis, and environmental interventions. When trained according to Veterans Health Administration (VHA) standards, the incumbent is expected to utilize Evidence Based Psychotherapies (EBPs) in the provision of mental health services.
Major Duties:
1) Provides a full range of psychological assessment services and diagnoses mental health conditions utilizing the current version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), particularly for complex or unusually challenging patients in the Pain Clinic with consultation to the Primary Care setting.
2) Assists, as requested, in the design, development, and implementation of clinical programs for the teams of treatment providers in programs or clinics distributed across the BPVAHCS continuum of care;
3) Provides education to patients, family members, significant others, and stakeholders, as indicated;
4) Provides comprehensive, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy, according to manualized protocols in which the incumbent was trained according to VHA standards, as indicated;
5) Provides consultation to professional staff within the BPVAHCS concerning clinical assessment findings, behavioral modification programs for patients, and appropriate treatment plans for patients;
6) Develops, implements, and documents the psychotherapeutic treatment plans for an assigned caseload of patients, including completion of clinical reminders, in an accurate and timely fashion; and
7) Functions independently as a member of the BPVAHCS Medical Staff, with full clinical privileges. The incumbent assumes complete professional responsibility for his/her clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; some evening, & weekends may be required to meet the Veteran care mission.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands of the work are generally minor. The work is primarily sedentary in climate controlled clinical and administrative settings. There may be occasional requirements to relocate boxed materials from one area to another, equipment and room set-up and physical inspections of the facilities.

· License - must hold a full, current and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the united States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia
· Education - must have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed. The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed OR
A doctoral degree in any area of psychology and, in addition, successfully complete a respecialization program (including documentation of an approved internship completed as part of the respecialization program) meeting both of the following conditions: (a) the respecialization program must be completed in an APA or a CPA accredited doctoral program; and (b) the specialty in which the applicant is retrained must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. NOTE: Must provide an official transcript and/or certificate documenting the completion of the respecialization program, which includes completion of an APA or CPA internship.
Internship-Successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that was accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed and that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.

New VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Office of Academic Affiliations at the time that the individual was an intern

VHA facilities that offered full-time, one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement
or
Completion of an internship that was not accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed may be considered eligible for hire only if they are currently board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. (NOTE: Once board certified, the employee is required to maintain board certification.)
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Grade Determinations: Must have at least two (2) years of experience as a professional psychologist, with at least one year equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12 Level) which includes: knowledge of, and ability to apply, a wide range of professional psychological theories and assessment methods to a variety of patient populations; ability to develop coherent treatment strategies; and ability to incorporate new clinical procedures.(Your resume must clearly show how you meet this qualification

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience: In addition to the experience requirements at the GS-12 level, at least 1 additional year of experience as a psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level. In addition the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:

1. Knowledge of, and ability to apply, advanced professional psychological theories and techniques to the full range of patient populations.
2. Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.

Preferred Experience:
Experience in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) required.
Experience with evidence based treatment is highly desirable.
