NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Rhode Island Air National Guard. Brief Description of Duties: Responsible for the accurate interpretation of numerous manufacturer drawings, specifications, operating instructions, and test procedures, to troubleshoot, calibrate, align and repair a variety of highly complex pieces of powered support equipment. This includes identifying, repairing or replacing numerous electronic (both digital and analog) components. It also includes the repair of composite materials and state of the art gas compressor turbines and electronically controlled engines. Troubleshoots, repairs, adjusts and aligns down-sized powered support equipment. Uses a variety of sophisticated testers, such as analyzers, digital meters, oscilloscopes and other measuring devices to determine repair requirements. Corrects unusual maintenance problems, by interpreting a variety of technical data such as tables, charts, formulas, color codes, wiring diagrams, and schematic symbols. Does circuit analyses, considers integrated circuit relationships, and applies electronic principles in order to fault-isolate and repair the various digital devices contained in highly complex powered support equipment. Performs inspections, preventive maintenance, servicing, repair, and adjustments on complex rotary diesel engines. Must independently determine work sequences, specifications, and special procedures to be used to fault-isolate and repair unusual problems in various pieces of powered support equipment. Conducts classes to train maintenance personnel in operations, test procedures, and troubleshooting requirements of highly complex powered support equipment.
Requirements:
- Incumbent must maintain membership in the Rhode Island National Guard.
- Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
- Valid state drivers license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
- For positions requiring a security clearance the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
- Background Criminal Investigations (BCI) are required for federal employment.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing and repairing equipment.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 18 Months Specialized Experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Employment in this position requires membership within the Rhode Island Air National Guard. Selected candidate(s) will be required to be in a compatible military grade and assignment within 60 days of the effective date of placement. Should be AFSC qualified within one year of placement action.
Military Grades: E-5 or below.
Compatible Military Assignments: 2AXXX.

However, if selected and the members AFSC is not compatible with this position they have sixty calendar days from the effective date of appointment to become assigned militarily to the compatible AFSC. The member will also have one year to become qualified in this military position.
