The incumbent draws blood from medical center outpatients for requested laboratory tests. This includes using special drawing techniques and assuring that proper tubes are used and correct amount of blood is drawn. Verifies the patient as the individual denoted on the request and labels all tubes with the patients name and social security number to ensure proper identification. Performs ivy bleeding times and therapeutic phlebotomies. Checks patients oin and out of the therapeutic phlebotomy clinic along with scheduling future appointments. Adheres to safety, infection control, and universal precauttions at all times while drawing blood. This includes such things as changing tourniquets and gloves between each patient must be proficient in the area of phlebotomy, being able to draw all but the most difficult patients and follows proper procedures for redrawing blood. In addition, must develop the essential speed required to complete the blood drawing duties.

Physical Requirements: The work requires extensive and recurring physical exertion such as standing for long periods of time, bending, standing, lifting, walking, stooping and stretching. Specialized Experience: I have six months specialized experience in (a) technical medical laboratory support work such performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled AND I also have six months of general experience which indicate my ability to do the work of this position, such as experience involving making fine measurements, determining and recording test results, mixing chemicals, or maintaining delicate instruments. I have a total of one year combined experience.
