Air Reserve Technicians are part of the regular civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. In addition, ARTs are required to maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit so long as they occupy Air Reserve Technician positions. As members of reserve units, ARTs receive on average one weekend of military training per month. In addition, they are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Force Reserve units and members are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.

The primary purpose of this Air Reserve Technician (ART) Enlisted position is to assist and advise on the effective management and use of organizational resources to fulfill the Aeromedical Evacuation (AE) mission. This position is primarily responsible for the overall operational management of the organization's readiness, logistics, and operational activities. This position also oversees assigned AE Technician (AET) training and qualifications requirements to include special career field skill qualification and matters pertaining to flight qualification/upgrade training. Incumbent of this position will perform the following duties:
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. (2) Incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. (3) Must obtain and retain applicable security clearance. (4) Incumbent may be required to work other than normal duty hours. (5) This may be drug testing designated position (TDP). Incumbent may be subject to random drug testing. (6) Must obtain and maintain certification with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians as an Emergency Medical Technician - Basic. (7) Must take and pass written and in-flight standardization/evaluation examinations to include random no-notice evaluations. (8) Must obtain and and maintain a mission-ready status at the appropriate crew qualification level at a Universally Qualified Aeromedical Evacuation Crew Member (AECM). (9) Flight Examiner (FE) qualification is highly desired. (10) Completion of the Air Force Trainer-Certifier program is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
(1) Knowledge of Aeromedical Evacuation operations principles, policies, and procedures and a comprehensive knowledge of support programs, concepts, practices and requirements relative to operations, medical and readiness programs. (2) Knowledge in the special aeromedical equipment and aircraft systems as it pertains to patient care, and multiple aircraft systems are required for the assigned missions. (3) Advanced knowledge of the theory of basic medical concepts as they apply to non-standard situations. (4) Knowledge of patient care, electrical systems, current flying directives, interpretation of loading plans, applicable technical publications, and egress and survival procedures. (5) Knowledge of theory of aerial effects directly related to medical care and treatment of patients and aircraft systems operations.
