The Delaware & Southern New Jersey Healthcare System is currently recruiting for two (2) experienced Psychologist to work Full-time in Behavior Health, located at the Wilmington DE Medical Center.
Delaware has no sales tax. Wilmington offers easy access to I-95 and cultural and recreational opportunities in Philadelphia, New York & Washington, DC. Major league sports abound in Philadelphia, sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and swimming at the Delaware Atlantic coast beaches are popular summer activities. The Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) Psychologist is assigned to the Psychology Service, a division of the Behavioral Health Service (BHS), at the Wilmington Veteran Affairs Medical Center (WVAMC). The Psychologist applies advanced professional psychological diagnostic methods and evidence-based intervention strategies to a full range of patient problems in his/her work setting. He/she has advanced knowledge of psychological diagnosis, intervention, and behavioral health that qualifies him/her to provide advice and consultation to professionals representing a variety of disciplines. The primary job functions include providing a full range of psychological assessment and treatment services for a wide range of patients in the department, consultation services, and education of staff and trainee supervision.
- Provides a full range of psychological assessment and treatment services of psychological disorders for a wide range of patients.
- Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others about psychological disorder and treatments.
- Develops, implements, and documents the psychotherapeutic treatment plan, including assessments, for an assigned caseload of patients.
- Provides comprehensive, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy.
- Consults with other hospital staff on a wide variety of patient care issues.
- Provides behavioral health services via Telehealth technologies, as appropriate.
- Complies with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients.
- Adheres to Psychology Service peer review procedures.
- Attends and participates in administrative and informational meetings held by the Chief of Psychology Services.
- Complies with all Computer Patient Record System (CPRS) documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check out procedures (e.g., entering diagnostic and procedure codes).
- Adheres to operational policies and procedures for the treatment team, established by the Associate Chief of Staff for Behavioral Health Services.

This is a AFGE, Bargaining Unit 1276 position.
Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary, but may require walking, bending, standing, climbing steps, carrying of light items such as files and manuals.
Basic Requirements:
U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education: Doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.
AND
Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA; Exceptions : (1)new VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Central Office of Academic Affiliations at the time that the individual was an intern and (2) VHA facilities who offered full one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement.
Licensure: Current and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States(e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience: Practice within a home health, medical/surgical or critical care setting; Geriatric/Adult focus; Current/recent practice; Ability to assess, diagnose and treat independently in the community.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Licensure. Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.
Experience. 1 year of experience as a Psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level, GS-12. In addition the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
- Knowledge of, and ability to apply, advanced professional psychological theories and techniques to the full range of patient populations.
- Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.
- Knowledge of clinical research literature.
Assignments; This is the full performance level for staff psychologists. At this level psychologists are licensed at the doctoral level to practice independently in the provision of psychological services consulting with peers and supervisors as appropriate. They are assigned to any VHA program and setting, including inpatient or outpatient medicine, surgery, mental health, neurology, rehabilitation medicine, geriatrics, Vet Centers, and the VHA National Center for Organizational Development.
Staff Psychologists diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments, treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders. Among the modalities provided are individual, family, and group psychotherapies, and other interventions such as biofeedback, psychological hypnosis, and environmental interventions. They consult with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues. Staff psychologists may be involved in program evaluation and/or research activities.
