The staff Periodontist should be proficient in all aspects of periodontal therapy, including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment planning, initial periodontal therapy, occlusal evaluation and equilibration, surgical and non-surgical periodontal therapy. The Periodontist should be proficient in recognition and treatment of mucogingival problems. The Periodontist should also be proficient in the area of implantology including treatment planning, surgical placement and maintenance of implant fixtures. The Periodontist will have responsibility for overseeing the clinical oral hygiene program. The Periodontist will be responsible for oversight of the dental hygiene program which will include monitoring of hygiene patient care and meeting with dental hygienists on a regular basis for staff meetings. The Periodontist will also provide didactic and clinical instruction in the other area of Periodontics within the Dental Residency program. The Periodontist will serve as a consultant and resource for the Dental Service staff by assisting in development of interdisciplinary treatment plans, offering consults when needed and other interactions with the professional staff as deemed necessary by the Chief of the Dental Service.
Work Schedule: FULL-TIME, Monday- Friday, 0700-1530

Basic Requirements:
Licensure and Registration: (1) Dentists (Except Residents). Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia. The dentist must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. (2) Residents (Independent and Integrated Programs). Graduates of approved United States and Canadian schools of dentistry must have a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia before the second year of VA residency, or, for integrated programs, meet any licensure, registration or other equivalent requirements established for residents of non-VA hospitals with which the VA facility is affiliated for training purposes. The resident must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active current licensure.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).
