This position is Centrally Managed by the Operations Career Field, PCS cost will be paid IAW JTR and Air Force Regulations, DNRP is not authorized.
· The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a civilian flight instructor and controller of substantially modified QF-16 Fighting Falcon Full-Scale Aerial Targets/drones.
· Instructs QF-16-airplane pilots on advanced techniques and operations required to support weapons systems test and evaluation projects.
· Instructs and remotely controls full-scale and aerial targets as a fully qualified, mission-ready UAV/drone instructor pilot/controller
· Participates in conferences, staff meetings, and briefings to evaluate and compile reports for manned and unmanned flight test results.
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Incumbent may receive short notification for the accomplishment of immediate action items directed by unit supervisors/higher headquarters that must be completed within established deadlines. Combat maneuvers, threat avoidance, and defensive counter tactics must be firmly understood. These assignments entail a substantial degree of hazard due to the demands for concentration characteristic of instrument flight, high-speed close proximity flying and high gravity force aerobatic combat maneuvers.
2. Must be a mission-ready, rated aircrew member on flying status in unit to which assigned. Must participate in regular and frequent flights, as required by the commander. Periodically, as prescribed by regulations, must take and pass standardization/evaluation examinations which consist of both written tests and actual flight performance to demonstrate flight knowledge and abilities required of the position. Must pass physical examinations and meet annual flying requirements. Loss of flying status, if not correctable within one year, results in incumbent no longer meeting the conditions for employment in this position.
3. As necessary, to meet special or essential unscheduled activities, may be required to work an uncommon tour of duty with brief advance notice. Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and/or overtime.
4. The incumbent may be required to fly in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments (TDY).
5. This position has been identified as a drug testing designated position. The incumbent of this position may be selected for random drug testing and is subject to reasonable suspicion testing and safety mishap or accident testing.
6. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Minimum eligibility requirements for positions in this occupation are based on possession of a Federal aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificate, Commercial Pilot or Airline Transport Pilot Certificate and/or appropriate military rating, a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Flight Instructor Certificate and/or appropriate military rating, at least 500 hours of multi-engine airplane instructor time, a current first or second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations, and possession of the knowledge and skills required for the position.

Federal Time-In-Grade (TIG) Requirement for General Schedule (GS) Positions: Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-12 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge and skill in the application of rated aviator expertise as an instructor pilot. Possess a current Commercial Pilot Certificate (airplane, multi-engine land), or Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (airplane, multi- engine land) or appropriate military rating, and a Class 2 FAA medical certificate. Have logged 1,150 hours of fighter time as aircraft commander (pilot-in-command) for assignment to the FSAT, and have flown at least 100 hours in the last 12 months.
2. Knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, and techniques for employment of unit-assigned aircraft.
3. Knowledge of flying operations and the unit mission.
4. Knowledge of the relationship of various Air Force entities in overall planning and execution of military operations and evaluations.
5. Ability to resolve complex issues and maintain good working relations.
6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
