Students who are eligible for participation in the Department of the Army Internship Program
Positions are open to current students in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
The Department of the Army Pathways Interns may be converted to a permanent position within 120 days of successful completion of the program. For this position, the conversion grade maybe at the GS-05 or GS-07 or GS-09 grade level; actual grade level at the time of conversion depends on academic achievement and other factors below. The Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center, more commonly known as CERDEC, actively advances capabilities that equip the Soldier to Enable and Create Decisive Effects, Mission Command the Operation, and Dominate the Electromagnetic Spectrum. The U.S. Army CERDEC serves to research, develop and evaluate trusted communications and networking technologies to transition operationally relevant solutions to the warfighter through employment of a dedicated and superior workforce, world class facilities and global partnerships.
To qualify, applicants must possess, at a minimum, the following education:

Interns
who successfully complete this internship may be placed into a permanent job as
an Engineer. In the Federal service, the Engineering profession requires
completion of a bachelor's degree in professional engineering. To be
acceptable, the engineering curriculum must: (1) be in a school of
engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board
for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum;
or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced
than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of
engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of
materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d)
thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties
of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g)
any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such
as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
Interns who successfully complete this internship may be placed into a
permanent job as a Computer Scientist. In the Federal service, the
Computer Scientist profession requires completion of a bachelor's degree in
computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination
of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30
semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics
that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and
course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
It is important to understand that your permanent assignment upon completion of your internship as a Engineer or Computer Scientist requires successful completion of the academic requirements listed above. Changing your curriculum to any other discipline will affect your eligibility for permanent placement with the Department of the Army upon completion of your internship.
Education:
Selective Placement Factor: Must be a current student, studying/majoring in Engineering
or Mathematics/Statistics or Computer Scientist.
To qualify for a Pathways Internship at the GS-03, students must have completed one full academic year of post-high school study. One full academic year is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university, or school to represent one year of full-time study.
To qualify for a Pathways Internship at the GS-04, students must have completed two full academic years of post-high school study, or have an associate's degree. Two full academic years is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university, or school to represent two years of full-time study.
Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
