This Job Announcement is a standing register - Applicant referrals will be made every Friday starting on 11:59 PM (EST) February 10, 2017. Selection may be made at any time during the open period of this announcement.
The Primary Care Physician will provide outpatient primary care treatment to Veterans with acute and chronic illness, with emphasis on preventative medicine. Evaluation and assessment of patients followed by evidence based treatment of patient's health care needs, in a Veteran centric, team-based model of care deliver. Routine coordination and collaboration with specialty care, mental health, and other team members, is considered an essential component of this position in order to ensure optimum patient health and delivery of efficient care.
· Provides primary care medicine to an assigned panel of adult Veterans. Veteran populations we serve are mostly male, with diseases consistent with those seen in the general population, namely diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, COPD, mental health disorders, amongst others. Comprehensive primary health care for women is also required. A primary focus of practice is on preventive medicine.
· Participates in the provision of Pain Management, Mental Health, and End of Life Care to Veterans in the primary care setting as required.
· Participates in the use of clinical practice guidelines, provision of standard of care to patients, and meets relevant performance measures as mandated by Veterans Health Administration (VHA).
· Surrogate for view alert coverage of other physicians/providers for patient care issues. This function would ensure that all labs, consults, and other tests ordered by practitioners on leave are indeed reviewed for appropriate action or disposition.
Work Schedule: No set schedule, work hours are based on business need, working from 0 to 40 hours per work week. Employee is to work periodically or for a fluctuating portion to work only as needed, as determined by management.

Basic Requirements:
· Citizenship of the United States.
· Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
· Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
· Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
· Proficiency in spoken and written English.
