Regulate and distribute irrigation water from and between storage reservoirs at diversions and in canals, and at all delivery points within the specified work territory. Receive water orders, take daily measurements, maintain records of water delivery, reservoir inflow and instream flows; calculate requirements and arranges quantity, time and duration of deliveries. Operate Project distribution facilities (dam gates, canal gates, checks, etc.) to regulate and deliver water in accordance with Project policies. Responsible for constant surveillance of condition of reservoirs, dams, canals, structures, buildings, recorder stations and other facilities. Work with maintenance crew to clean ditches and structures, repair and replace structures, build/place concrete forms and operate hand or power tools.

GS-05: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level performing farming or ranching work that provided knowledge of soil and water conservation practices and irrigation procedures used in the geographical area for which application is made; construction, maintenance, or operating work that provided a knowledge of the control, regulation, distribution, and measurement of water; controlling, clearing, repairing, and maintaining irrigation ditches, canals, and equipment; or soil conservation or engineering technician work where the duties provided a knowledge of irrigation procedures -OR- Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a Bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in civil engineering, agriculture, soil management or conservation, physical science, mathematics, or range management or conservation, -OR- A combination of specialized experience and education as described above. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a Bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements
GS-04: 6 months of general experience records work orders, report emergency situations or problems, clean ditches, operate hand powered tools, assist with weed control, complies with safety instructions, -and- 6 months of specialized experience regulate and distribute irrigation water, receives water orders, open and close dam gates, canal gates surveillance of reservoirs dams, canals, facilities, reporting problems to supervisor -OR- 2 years above high school with courses related to the occupation with courses civil engineering, agriculture, soil management or conservation, physical science, mathe-matics, or range management or conservation
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
Farming or ranching work that provided knowledge of soil and water conservation practices and irrigation procedures used in the geographical area for which application is made.
Construction, maintenance, or operating work that provided a knowledge of control, regulation, distribution, and measurement of water.
Controlling, clearing, repairing, and maintaining irrigation ditches, canals, and equipment; or soil conservation or engineering technician work where the duties provided a knowledge of irrigation procedures.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: (1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.

Part-Time or Unpaid Experience: Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience regardless of whether compensation was received or whether the experience was gained in a part-time or full-time occupation. Full-time work is generally considered to be 35 to 40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts with your name, school name, credit hours, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking.
