West Palm Beach VAMC is recruiting for a physician specializing in Hematology/Oncology. The incumbent physician will provide patient care for further growth and development of the Hematology/Oncology Section of the Medicine Service within the context of the emerging, competitive, health care environment.
Hematology/Oncology Scope of Practice:
Privileges include admission, work up, diagnosis, and provision of non-surgical treatment including consultation for patients admitted or in need of care to treat general medical problems, and provide consultative services to patients in the Long Term Care setting.
The Hematologist/Oncologist is able to evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment in an outpatient setting or in the form of inpatient consultative services to patients of all ages presenting with illnesses and disorders of the blood and blood-forming tissues and/or malignant tumors. This includes: performing and interpreting peripheral blood smears, bone marrow aspirations and biopsy, administration of chemotherapeutic agents and biological response to modifiers through all therapeutic routes, including intrathecal chemotherapy, the management and care of indwelling venous access catheters, plasmapheresis, and therapeutic phlebotomy.

In the performance of official duties, the Hematology/Oncologist will have regular access to printed and electronic files containing sensitive data which must be protected under the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy. The Physicians will be responsible for protecting the data from unauthorized release or from loss and or alteration, or unauthorized deletion.
Miscellaneous activities of the Medical Service including committee assignments, QA activities, and other special projects that help fulfill and/or enhance the mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs as assigned by the Chief, Hospitalist Section, Medicine Service or West Palm Beach VAMC Executive Leadership.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Physical Requirements:
Standing, walking, lifting light loads, assisting patients with positioning and transfers. Must be able to use a computer to input orders, review reports, etc. Must be able to communicate directions and patient orders.
