The Carl Vinson VA Medical Center is located on a beautifully landscaped 75 acre tract in Dublin, Georgia. The 340 operating-bed facility provides both acute and extended care services and has approximately 1300+ employees providing comprehensive healthcare to veterans in Middle and South Georgia.
Services provided at the medical center include primary care, mental health, ambulatory and primary care, optometry, women's health, and extended care, as well as specialized programs to include cardiology pulmonary, general surgery, podiatry, urology, and physical therapy. Mental Health services available include treatment for substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, and general psychiatric care.

In addition to the services available at our medical center, Primary Care services are provided at community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) - located in Albany, Brunswick, Milledgeville, Macon, Perry and Tifton Georgia.

Introduction: The incumbent independently performs duties involving accessioning, preparing specimens for reference testing and performing a wide variety of complex and difficult tests in phlebotomy, chemistry, microbiology/urinalysis, hematology and blood bank/coagulation as assigned for the medical center.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
· Collects Specimens/Process Specimens
· Assists Providers and others in locating results of tests
· Organizes ward specimens collection list, stat and timed draws and reviews the collection list for uncollected orders and resolves the uncollected status.
· Packages and ships diagnostic specimens to reference labs following DOT and IATA regulations
· Performs testing in Chemistry, Microbiology/Urinalysis, and Hematology and Blood Bank/Coagulation sections as assigned within established guidelines for accuracy, precision and time limits.
· Maintain Equipment/Supplies/Laboratory Records

Physical Requirements: The incumbent must be able to perform moderate lifting up to 20 lbs, straight pulling, pushing, reaching above the shoulder, use of fingers and both hands, walking, standing for up to 4 hours, kneeling, repeating bending, use of both arms and legs. Specific visual requirements include use of eyes, depth perception, ability to distinguish colors and shades of colors, hearing (aids permitted) clear, high cognitive function and emotional stability; ability to read ordinary type without eye strain.

1. Knowledge of laboratory testing principles, concepts and quality control sufficient to perform the diagnostic testing required
2. Knowledge to perform phlebotomy following sterile techniques on a wide range of patients, using a variety of blood collecting devices.
3. Knowledge of safety and regulatory agency requirements with regards to laboratory accreditation and regulation.
4. Skills in operating complex equipment systems such as those with numerous components or parts which must be calibrated and synchronized to achieve desired results.
5. Ability to communicate orally and in writing in dealing with patients, visitors and staff.
