VA Pittsburgh is recruiting for a full-time Emergency Department (ED) Physician to provide Mid-Level Provider coverage in our sixteen-bed, Level 1 Emergency Department, which provides 24/7 care for over 25,000 annual visits by our Veteran patients with medical and psychological healthcare issues, including mental health, substance abuse, homelessness, and domestic abuse issues. The ED has 24 hour access to a cardiac catheterization lab for patients with ACS, and is also a limited stroke facility.

VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) operates a sixteen-bed, Level 1 Emergency Department (ED), with Mid-Level Provider coverage, which provides 24/7 care for over 25,000 annual visits by our veteran patients with medical and psychological healthcare issues, including mental health, substance abuse, homelessness, and domestic abuse issues. The ED has 24 hour access to a cardiac catheterization lab for patients with ACS, and is also a limited stroke facility. ED Physicians report to the Emergency Department medical director. ED staff work directly with the ED nursing, administrative staff, social workers, and the administrative officer. Additional duties include compliance with all medical center policies and procedures, participation on medical center committees, annual performance evaluations, scheduling for the medical staff, and setting the course for long-term development of the ED.
As an Emergency Department Physician you will be responsible for the following duties:
Perform assessments/examinations on initial encounter with unscheduled, emergency and new patients. Coordinate patient treatment plan (involve specialists as appropriate. Order appropriate routine diagnostic tests and x-ray studies necessary to complete the evaluation. Provide physician oversight to ED nurses and other ED mid-levels. Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews. Participate on committees of the Medical staff. Attend physician meetings as well as ED staff meetings. Recommend patients for hospital admissions.

Education:
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in theAssociation of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American OsteopathicAssociation for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State,Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbiaas qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
Foreign Education Requirements:
To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, you mustshow proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specialized in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and sucheducation has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventionalU.S. education programs.
