Major Duties:
These positions are located in the Housekeeping Section of Facilities Management Service or the Housekeeping Section of Inpatient and Emergency Services Division at the Portland VA Health Care System in Portland, Oregon OR Vancouver, Washington. The incumbent must be able to perform a wide variety of janitorial duties in an acute care healthcare facility, requiring substantial physical effort to perform duties such as, operating and adjusting heavy duty commercial cleaning equipment, and safety using ladders. The incumbent possesses significant knowledge of infection control and hazardous wast procedures to ensure compliance with all VA healthcare and safety directives and regulations. The incumbent of this position performs specialized tasks in completing cleaning duties in critical patient care areas that require the highest level of sanitation.
Routine tasks include, but are not limited to: waste removal, dusting, polishing, dust-mopping, damp mopping; cleaning of urinals, sinks, commodes; restocking supplies such as towels or tissues, the cleaning of equipment used, performing periodic maintenance checks, etc. Specialized tasks include, but are not limited to, isolation room and area cleaning, and terminal or discharge room cleaning. The incumbent may clean walls using power washers or steam cleaners; cleans carpets and carpet runners, using heavy (industrial-type) vacuum cleaners and carpet extractors. Adjusts, cleans and changes brushes, rollers, buffer pads, and other attachments on housekeeping equipment. Required to clean, disinfect, and replace blinds, patient privacy curtains, ceiling fixtures and shower curtains using ladders in a safe and efficient manner. Incumbent will be required to routinely clean, dust, and disinfect furniture. Incumbent will frequently be required to move heavy furniture, supplies and equipment. Other duties include emptying waste receptacles throughout the facility, consisting of both infections and non-infectious waste.
Work Schedule:
Various tours and shifts may be considered; details may be discussed during the interview or at time of selection. Management reserves the right to determine and change tour of duty.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works indoors in areas that are exposed to fumes, smoke, or gases, solvents, and dust. Work will be around machinery with moving parts; working on ladders of scaffolding; working with hands in water; vibration; working closely with others; working alone.
Your background must demonstrate experience in a variety of cleaning duties, such as sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors; cleaning surfaces such as light fixtures, venetian blinds, and counter-tops; and cleaning restroom facilities including toilets, baths, and sinks.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume or OF-612.
