Serve as a senior Electrical Engineer, responsible for developing electrical designs; performing technical reviews of electrical designs developed by architectural-engineering firms (A-E), and resolving electrical design related problems arising during construction. Provide electrical expertise for a wide range of design projects containing the most diverse, complex, and for unconventional electrical and electronic features for projects in the Districts' Military, Civil Works, and Support for Others (SFO). Apply deep and diversified professional knowledge of electrical engineering theory, principles, and practices related to the layout and design of electrical systems and equipment.

Basic education requirements:
A. Degree: professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

B. A combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. Specialized experience requirements:
In addition to the basic education requirements, you must meet the specialized experience requirements shown below. Education may be substituted for experience to qualify for the GS-11 level; see discussion below.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You may receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
For the GS-11 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-9 in the Federal service. Such specialized experience includes work which has required use of electrical engineering principles to develop design plans and specifications; assisting in developing designs of electrical features of vertical construction projects; and using various forms of computer hardware and software to accomplish assigned tasks.
Substitution: You may substitute 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree for the specialized experience to qualify for the GS-11 level.
For the GS-12 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 in the Federal service. Such specialized experience includes applying advanced electrical engineering principles to developing design plans and specifications; develop designs of electrical features of vertical construction projects; utilize various forms of computer hardware and software to accomplish assigned tasks such as computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) systems, technical design/evaluation software, word processing, spreadsheets, and database management; and experience with Architect-Engineer design work, or other work similar to that performed in this position.
Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
