The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the United States Department of Agricultures chief scientific research agency and one of the worlds premiere scientific organizations. ARS Postdoctoral Research Associates are hired to supplement a lead scientist's research on agricultural problems of high national priority affecting American agriculture.
The Mycotoxin Prevention and Applied Microbiology Research Unit is looking for a Research Molecular Biologist or a Research Plant Pathologist to provide research support. The assignment is to use molecular and genetic approaches to develop natural and synthetice meiotic drive elements that will reduce mycotoxin production in populations of Fusarium.

The incumbent will conduct research on the development of alternative control strategies for the reduction of mycotoxin contamination of maize. Research will involve developing a natural meiotic drive element called Spore Killer in Fusarium verticillioides, a common pathogen of maize, and a synthetic meiotic drive element based on CAS9, that will minimize mycotoxin synthesis in a population of the fungus.

This position requires a recent Ph.D in molecular biology, plant pathology or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
