The HUD-VASH program is an intense case management program for chronically homeless Veterans aimed at providing psychosocial services to Veterans while residing in stable housing through HUD's Section 8 voucher system.
The Occupational Therapist (OT) independently provides functional assessments, plans, integrates and coordinates the occupational therapy services for Veterans enrolled in HUD-VASH Program primarily working in their homes in the community.
The HUD-VASH Occupational Therapist works as part of a multidisciplinary team and provides OT therapy for
Veterans enrolled in HUD-VASH Program. Veterans may have major mental health diagnosis, cognitive impairment, active substance abuse, and physical disabilities limiting independence in self-care and living skills. The OT will meet with Veterans at their place of residence, community shelters, foster homes, anywhere Veteran is residing.

Basic Requirements:
Preferred Experience: Skilled in principles and techniques in the occupational therapy assessment and treatment of occupational, cognitive, and psychological functional deficits.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Grade Determinations:
Experience. One year of progressively complex OT experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service, OR
Education Equivalent. Three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a doctoral degree in OT or a directly-related field.
Assignment. OTs at this grade level must meet state regulatory requirements for assignment at this grade level, and are considered to be at the full performance level. Staff OTs at this level practice independently and are responsible for performing occupational therapy assessment and treatment interventions. Staff OTs demonstrate a full professional understanding of the theories of treatment in occupational therapy and their proper application through the use of activity analysis, behavioral intervention, frame of references, and therapeutic procedures. They are assigned to all program areas which are covered by Rehabilitation Services and provide professional, independent occupational therapy services in the assigned area.
