MSHA is establishing a standing register of qualified (UNDERGROUND, SURFACE AND ELECTRICAL) applicants to fill vacancies as they become available in MSHA's Coal Districts. Applicants are required to attend a MSHA Coal job fair to receive consideration. This position has promotion potential to the GS-12 for all Inspector positions. Promotion Potential: There is no obligation to provide future promotions to you if you are selected. MSHA Inspector job responsibilities include conducting on-site inspections or investigations of underground and surface mines in order to: Identify potential hazardous conditions to the safety and health of workers; Ensure proper mining equipment maintenance and use; Check mining practices for conformance with safety and health laws and regulations; Issue citations when violations and hazards are identified; Determine how accidents and disasters are caused and prevented; Help direct rescue and fire fighting operations after fires or explosions; Investigate safety and health complaints from mine personnel; and Discuss inspection/investigation findings and provide technical advice and assistance to mine management and personnel.
