The incumbent will be assigned to study genetics of virus resistance in switchgrass cultivars. Responsible for dissecting the mechanisms of switchgrass cultivars resistance to Panicum mosaic virus, Satellite panicum mosaic virus and Switchgrass mosaic virus using a variety of genetics, genomics, reverse genetics and biochemical approaches. Conduct research in cooperation with members of an interdisciplinary research team of plant molecular biologists, a geneticist, an agronomist, and a plant virologist.

This position requires a Ph.D in Plant Pathology, Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Microbiology requires a degree in microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent.
Knowledge on plant pathology including plant viruses, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry are required.
Skills related to experiments that involve molecular biology and biochemical approaches to dissect genetics of virus resistance in plants are required. Experience on high-throughput sequence analyses and reverse genetics of plant viruses is desirable.
Ability to work independently on experiments related to genetics of virus resistance in switchgrass and related cultivars is required. This position is also required to conduct research in cooperation with members of an interdisciplinary research team of plant molecular biologists, a geneticist, an agronomist, and a plant virologist.
