Seeking 3 full-time board certified or board eligible Psychiatrists for the brand new, state-of-the-art Orlando VA Medical Center. Looking for motivated, flexible, team-oriented providers of patient-centered care.
Positions available include one inpatient psychiatrist who will be completing the required staffing of 4 inpatient psychiatrists for the 40 bed Inpatient Mental Health Unit. The primary role for these positions will focus on Inpatient Care. Positions with different responsibilities are available which include staffing of the psychiatric ward during days and covering consults, and/or admissions and cross covering the ED The purpose of the work is to ensure efficient and effective admissions and operations for various mental health services at the medical center. These positions provides an opportunity to interact with physicians in training, medical student and academic faculty in the setting of a teaching hospital.
One position is focused on the consultation/liaison service, the applicant would preferably have a completed a psychosomatic fellowship or have extensive experience in consultation/liaison. The C/L service is expected to provide robust educational experience for medical students and for psychiatry residents and to work as a team with the medical psychologist assigned to the C/L service. Another position will focus on the Emergency Department. This position will manage assessment and initial treatment of acute mental health ED patients and providing appropriate disposition including admission. This position is co-located with the medical ED providers. It is also expected to be strong teaching environment for medical students and residents.
These positions are expected to provide cross-coverage for inpatient psychiatrist, and the MHRRTP psychiatrists. Inpatient duties will include: Provide medical care including admission orders, history and physical (H&P), discharge orders, sick call and medication orders. The medical care will be supported by an internal medicine hospitalist system.. Coordinates referrals and oversees continuity of medical care that is delivered to inpatients on acute psychiatric units. Each unit has 20 beds for total potential inpatient census of 40 and are designed around patient-centered care. These positions are expected to obtain/maintain buprenorphine credentialing.
Work Schedule:

The candidate
must be willing to work weekends and irregular work hours and may need to
provide clinical services off tour and will be required to do so upon receiving
critical clinical messages. The candidate must be willing to be placed,
detailed or temporarily assigned to other related services and/or locations, if
necessary. All providers may be detailed to any site within the Orlando system.
Physical Requirements: Walking (up to 2 hours); Standing (up to 2 hours); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Ability to distinguish shades of colors; Hearing (aid permitted).
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must meet the following basic requirements.
Citizenship. Citizen of the United States.
Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Medical Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
Licensure. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country.
Residency Training. Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Board Certification (highly preferred). Board certified or eligible
If board eligible, providers must demonstrate significant accomplishments in clinical practice, educational activities, research or administration which clearly distinguish them as having the highest professional qualifications in the specialty area to which assigned.
Physical Standards. Must pass a pre-employment examination. See below for additional information.
English Language Proficiency. Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
