The Overton Brooks VA Medical Center (OBVAMC) consists of one VHA tertiary care facility and three (3) community based outpatient clinics serving Veterans in twelve (12) Louisiana parishes, eleven (11) counties in Southern Arkansas and nine (9) counties in East Texas. The medical center is classified as a Clinical Referral Level 1C Facility which accepts referrals from the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Healthcare System located in New Orleans, LA and the Alexandria VA Health Care System located in Pineville, LA. OBVAMC is a teaching hospital providing a complete range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as education and research. The Physician Assistant is assigned to Home Based Primary Care Service at Monroe Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). The incumbent will function as a Primary Care Provider at the patients' home setting; will be a member of the Home Based Primary (HBPC) Care interdisciplinary team, as well as collaborate with other health care professionals to accomplish patient, service, hospital, and VISN goals. He/she must display leadership and an exceptional degree of competence. He/she will be involved with a wide array of specialties/subspecialties. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Participates with all members of the HBPC Special PopulationPatient Aligned Care Team in caring for the patient to promote the medical home concept, including daily team huddles, weekly team meetings, and fostering the team concept.

Physical Requirements:
In the process of providing patient care,
the work involves regular and recurring periods of walking, standing, sitting,
bending, pulling, lifting, reaching, and carrying. Manual dexterity is required
to operate medical equipment and perform activities such as treatments and
computerized medical record documentation.
U.S. Citizen - Citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).
Education -Graduate of a PA training program, or of a surgical assistant program which is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor organizations; and
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited PA training program or in another health sciences related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Certification
Current and continuous certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required for employment in VHA.
Recent PA graduates who are eligible to take the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE) may be employed by VA on a temporary basis (38 U.S.C. 7405), for a period not to exceed two years, as provided in VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section G, Paragraph 5.
Physical Standards. Applicants must undergo a pre-employment medical examination and be medically suitable to perform the essential duties of a Physician Assistant efficiently and without hazard to themselves and others.
English Language Proficiency. Individuals appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d).
A valid drivers license is required.

volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps,
AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic;
religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical
competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and
experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying
experience, including volunteer experience.
