About the Position: The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned and -operated manufacturing center located in New York. It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813. Today it is relied upon by U.S. and foreign militaries to produce the most advanced, high-powered weaponry for cannon, howitzer, and mortar systems. The Arsenal is the only location in the DoD that has a weapons research facility (Benét Laboratories) collocated with a manufacturing facility (Arsenal).

Responsible for the protection of government personnel, property and technologies against such hazards as: sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage and destruction. Stands guard at a variety of fixed posts, and patrol assignments within the installation, exercising those stringent security measures necessary to monitor and provide appropriate level of control of the personnel and vehicles on the installation. Closely observes perimeter to preclude the possibility of attempts at espionage, sabotage or unlawful intrusion. Responds to emergency situations, skillfully applying seasoned knowledge of security procedures, jurisdiction, search and seizure, weapons, bombs, incendiary devices, and methods for the preservation of evidence. Qualifies and trains with special weapons. Performs foot patrols, insuring the interior security of the installation buildings.

Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: experience with a Federal, State, municipal, local or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass and/or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided knowledge of protective systems and/or techniques as well as principles and methods of security and law enforcement.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
