The Southern Arizona Health Care System (SAVAHCS) is currently recruiting for one (1) Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist with sub specialty in Ultrasound to work at our VA Medical Center located in Tucson, AZ. The Position is located in the Diagnostic Service Line. The incumbent will perform ultrasound examinations of abdomen, pelvis, breast and superficial structures including the scrotum, neck and extremities. Vascular ultrasound will be performed in the vascular lab performing non-invasive ultrasound and Doppler test, including segmental pressures of upper and lower extremities. As need dictates will perform less complex examinations. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
· Coordinate a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the application of non-ionizing high frequency ultrasonic waves for diagnosis of disease.
· Perform ultrasonography studies, records and processes images, as well as prepares the processed images for interpretation.
· Perform examinations such as Abdomen - liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, abdominal aorta, vena cava, carotids, and femoral arteries.
· Assist the radiologist with interventional procedures such as biopsies, and drainage procedures.
· Perform scans of minor and major organs.
· Maintain a quality assurance program of all ultrasound scanning equipment.
· Instruct radiology residents and student technologist on all aspect of ultrasound imaging.
· Independently performs standard examinations.
· Perform exams on the wards using a portable ultrasound unit.
· Prepare patients for exams and explains procedures to patients prior to performing the exam.
· Perform non-invasive ultrasound and Doppler test (upper and lower extremity, arterial, venous, carotids, and segmental pressures) in the vascular lab.
· Record all patient data.
· Ensure that all images are sent to VISTA/RAD upon completion of examination.
· Utilizing Vista (Radiology Package) will register and status track all exams.
· Maintain all supplies necessary for the ultrasound/vascular suites.
· Maintain CPR certification.
· Transmit images to off site location for after hour reads.
· Perferred certifications RDMS, RVRT.

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00a.m. 4:30pm; Rotating on call, Holidays
Physical Requirements: Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist: Heavy Lifting (45 lbs and over); Heavy Carrying (45 lbs and over); Straight Pulling (up to 1 hour); Pushing (1 2 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (up to 3 hours); Standing (up to 3 hours); Repeated bending (up to 1 hour); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; Good distant vision in one eye and ability to read w/o strain, printed material the size of typewritten, glasses ok; Hearing (aid permitted); Emotional and Mental Stability.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
1. Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified candidates in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.)
2. Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R). Highly preferred candidates will have additional certification RDMS/RVT. (MUST PROVIDE COPY OF CERTIFICATION WITH APPLICATION).
3. Experience or Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate's degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), and certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiology.
4. English Language Proficiency. Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 2, section D, paragraph 5a, this part.
Selective Placement Factor: Possess a minimum of 1 year's experience performing Diagnostic Ultrasound examinations in hospitals or clinics that are used in medical diagnosis and interpreted by a Radiologist.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
GS-09: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: in addition to meeting the basic requirement, 1 year of experience at the next lower grade level (GS-08) that gave me the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to fully functional as a DRT and are able to carry out the assigned tasks independently. DRTs at this level may have varying assignments including special and complex radiographic procedures to include to include diagnostic ultrasound examinations of the abdomen, pelvis, breast and superficial structures. Regardless of the nature of the specific assignment, the work must be of sufficient scope and complexity to meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform at this level. [Note: This experience is only creditable if it was earned AFTER completion of the basic requirement].
