Major Duties: The physician filling this position will primarily serve as a general diagnostic radiologist, interpreting each of the different types of radiology examinations that are covered by the Diagnostic Radiology Section. Those examinations currently include radiography, ultrasonography, computed tomography, musculoskeletal/abdominal MRI, and fluoroscopy. However, the scope of such examinations has the potential to increase or change over the radiologist's career. The radiologist maintains professional responsibility to remain proficient in all evolving advances in their field, commensurate with their position as a general radiologist. General diagnostic radiologists do not currently interpret Neuroradiology, Nuclear Medicine, or Interventional Radiology, though this is subject to change. Proficiency with mammography is considered a plus, but not required.
The physician filling this position should have particular expertise in the subspecialty of Musculoskeletal Imaging. This might include either fellowship training and/or professional expertise.
The Radiologist will also actively participate in the non-clinical activities that are expected of Radiologists. These include, but are not limited to, serving as a Modality Champion, running interdisciplinary tumor boards, educating technologists, and participating in hospital committees. The scope of such activities may change over the radiologist's career.
The radiologist may participate in the Diagnostic Radiology call pool, as designated by departmental policies. The Radiologist must maintain proficiency and capacity to perform and interpret all forms of examinations that might be performed on call.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: A pre-placement physical examination will be completed prior to appointment to determine the physical and mental fitness of candidates. The examination will be concerned with the mental and physical ability of teh applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment and will include requisite laboratory and other screening as required by Federal regulatory agencies. Applicants must have the mental and physical ability to perform core privileges required by the specialty position in addition to any specialty privileges requested.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
1. U. S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
2. Have a degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting for a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
- Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
- Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year the degree was granted.
- Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
3. Must possess and maintain current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
4. Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed.
5. Meet the physical standards outlined in VA Directive and Handbook 5019. This will be evidenced by completion of a pre-employment physical.
6. As this a direct patient care position, physician selected must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 USC 7402(d) and 7407(d).
7. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
