The selectee(s) will serve as a Statistician, GS-1530-07/09. The statistician will:
PLEASE BE ADVISE: May supervise and administer the work of staff assigned to a survey, less than 25% of the time (regional office positions only).
· Develop survey and study specifications and procedures
· Develop and design survey questionnaires
· Assist in data collection operations
· Analyze and evaluate data
· Disseminate study results through written publications and oral presentations

All applicants must meet the following basic requirements
(education can be obtained within 9 months):
A. You have a bachelors or higher degree; AND
B. You have 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics). Courses may be credited as statistical provided the course content is at least 50 percent statistical methods; AND
C. You have 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc.; OR
D. You do not have a bachelors or higher degree but do meet the course work requirements specified in B and C above, and also have additional experience or education. Your experience includes a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing and analyzing statistical data; and (c) applying known statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance. Your combination of education and experience must total at least four years.
Notes Regarding Qualifying Education:
In addition to the basic requirements for all applicants described above, applicants applying for the GS-07 grade level must meet one of the following requirements (education can be obtained within 9 months):
A. You have a bachelor's degree and superior academic achievement. Superior academic achievement is generally defined by an earned grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0. B. You have completed at least one year of graduate education; OR
C. You have had at least one year of professional work experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal Service, where your assignments and the steps to follow were defined by your supervisor or by standard operating procedures, and your work was checked closely for accuracy and adequacy. Generally, any deviation from standard procedures required prior approval of your supervisor. Your assignments included work in one or more of the following areas: 1) writing procedures for clerical, automated, or computer-assisted statistical survey operations; 2) assisting in the design and development of specifications to be used in carrying out statistical surveys or studies, 3) applying or using standard statistical methods and analyses such as measures of central tendency and dispersion found in college textbooks, and 4) assisting in developing a report on a statistical study or survey; or you have had at least one year experience collecting data for large scale statistical surveys or studies; OR
D. You have a combination of graduate education described in B and experience described in C that when combined meets 100% of the qualifications requirements of this position. To calculate your percentage of graduate education, divide the number of graduate semester hours by 18. To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total number of months of qualifying experience, as described in C above, by 12. The two percentages must total at least 100% for you to qualify under the combination of education and experience.

A. You have a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or you have completed two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree; ORB. You have had at least one year of professional work experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal Service, where your assignments were most often defined by your supervisor or by standard operating procedures, but you used some judgment in selecting the operational approaches and statistical methods and, when necessary, made minor changes to adapt the methods to your specific work situations. Your analytical methods and results, written documents, and reports were closely reviewed for technical and analytical accuracy. Your assignments included work in one or more of the following areas: 1) assisting in designing and developing specifications for data collection and data processing requirements, operating procedures, training materials, and operational schedules for statistical studies and surveys, 2) applying advanced statistical analytical tools such as regression analysis and measures of variance to socio/economic and demographic data, and 3) assisting in the development of professional papers or reports on such data; or you have had at least one year of experience coordinating field data collection activities for large scale statistical surveys or studies; OR
C. You have a combination of graduate education described in A and experience described in B that when combined meets 100% of the qualifications requirements of this position. To calculate your percentage of graduate education, divide the number of graduate semester hours by 18. To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total number of months of qualifying experience, as described in B above, by 12.
