This is a bargaining unit position.
The urologist assigned to the Central Texas Veterans Health Care Center, Temple, Texas, is aligned in the Urology Section within Surgical Service.
The assigned urologist is required to deliver surgical care in the operating room, and clinical care within Surgical Service. Responsibilities include performing surgical operations, outpatient ambulatory surgical procedures and clinic duties; and triaging outpatient and inpatient consultations for new patients. Participate in ward/ICU rounds and any other relevant patient activities as necessary. The urologist is expected to follow each patient through the full continuum of care to include admissions, discharges, performing histories and physicals, requesting/assisting in the coordination of diagnostic tests and procedures prior to surgery, education and counseling of the patient and family members. The full-time urologist will participate in the rotation of on-call duties for patients 24 hours per day, 7 days per week (some night, weekend and holiday call may be required). The urologist will adhere to policies and procedures regarding the completion of all required orders, operation reports, discharge summaries, progress notes, clinical reminders, and all other required medical documentation. The urologist will ensure the most effective delivery of surgical care while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission and VA Central Office performance measure standards. Additionally, the urologist will train and provide supervision for medical students and residents in all aspects of their surgery rotations as required. CTVHCS is affiliated with Texas A&M Health Science Center, and applicants should be qualified for academic appointments. Other duties as assigned.

The incumbent of this position may be reassigned with in CTVHCS based upon patient care needs.
Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019. This examination is administered by VA Occupational Health. This position requires: light to moderate lifting (15 - 44 lbs); light carrying (15 lbs and under); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (up to 2 hours); standing (up to 2 hours); kneeling (up to 1 hour); ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted); emotional stability; mental stability; working closely with others; and working alone.
Preferred Experience: Board certified (BC) or board eligible (BE)
PHYSICIAN STAFF REQUIREMENTS:
Staff Physician: None beyond the basic requirements. The individual must qualify to perform duties as a physician, have completed an accredited residency and/or possess experience which has qualified the individual to perform general duties and some specialized functions and procedures without supervision. Staff physicians may also include attendings who train physician residents assigned in facilities with residency training programs, and consultants who are capable of giving authoritative views and opinions on subjects in their field of medicine.
