This position is located in the St. Thomas Community Based Clinic of the USVI. The Clinic Director is accountable for all clinical responsibilities within his/her clinic and will identify unique opportunities to expand quality, access, and timeliness of care to veterans, as established by VA Guidelines and Directives. She/he is accountable to the ACOS for Primary Care Service. Incumbent will overview and supervise the day-to-day operation and coordination of the clinical services including the Specialty clinics at St Thomas CBOC and will act as liaison with the parent services in San Juan and the community resources. She/he will be responsible for the quality monitoring and outcomes of the performance measures for our service at the St. Thomas CBOC Primary Care Clinic. The ST. Thomas Clinic Director will be the direct supervisor of the Nursing Staff, Medical Support Assistant (MSA) and Social Worker assigned to the clinic.
The overall responsibilities typically include, but are not limited to:
Work Schedule: Mondays - Fridays: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (Due to the critical nature of this position which involves direct patient care candidate must be willing to work extended and/or irregular hours including weekends.
Functional Statement Title/#: Physician/Clinic Director (St. Thomas Community Based Outpatient Clinic)
Physical Requirements: The position involves exposure to blood borne pathogens, fine manipulation, standing, walking, bending, crouching, and reaching patients. It requires dealing with the acutely ill, with patients who may display disturbed behaviors, and with stressful situations. Wearing of a respirator may be required at times in the performance of the duties of this position. When required to use respirator, employee cannot have facial hair or any condition that interferes with the face to face piece seal or valve function of the respirator. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
Preferred Experience: Graduated of an ACGME accredited Internal Medicine or Family Medicine residency program, and possess administrative experience and leadership skills. Board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine, preferred.
A Service Chief or Line Manager physician must demonstrate the following:
(a) Outstanding professional ability in the practice of medicine or a medical specialty;
(b) Ability to guide the development and implementation of programs within their respective domain. These programs would include, but are not limited to medical practice, professional standards, personnel issues, quality and performance improvement.
Experience refers
to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National
Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g.,
professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student;
social). Volunteer work helps build
critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training
and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying
experience, including volunteer experience.
