The South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) is looking for a Staff physician (Bone Marrow Transplant/Hematologist) at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital in San Antonio, TX
The STVHCS is just one of three Veterans Affairs facility that offer BMT services to its Veterans. The BMT section has four Hematologists assigned to the section.

Scope of Duties:
The selected practitioner can expect to spend 30-40% of their time in the BMT section and 60-70% of their time in the Hematology section. The average number of patients seen each day is four to six patients. The incumbent will have their own panel of patients when working in clinics. The position includes in-patient and outpatient care responsibilities.
Teaching of BMT and Hematology fellows is required. Academic appointment with University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio MAY be possible.
Duty Hours:
8:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday
On Call requirements: One of every four weeks. Majority of calls are telephone consults only.
Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

A pre-placement physical examination will be completed prior to appointment to determine the physical and mental fitness of candidates. Physical requirements include, but not limited to: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), Moderate carrying (15-44 pounds), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking (6 hour), standing (6 hours), repeated bending (2-4 hours), ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable at 13' to 16' to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision 20/30, ability to distinguish colors, hearing (aid permitted), mental/emotional stability, ability to perform privileges, independently performs physical exams as appropriate to position, and cognitive stability.

to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National
Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g.,
professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student;
social). Volunteer work helps build
critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training
and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying
experience, including volunteer experience.
