The Horticultural Crops Research Unit is seeking a Research Associate (post doc) to develop new IPM for invasive insect pests on horticultural and nursery crops and will conduct research for 1) RNAi-based approach with identification of targets, RNA-seq, design, bioassay, screening, and evaluation of RNAi impacts, and/or 2) insect receptor-based approach with identification of GPCRs, functional expression, bioassay and screening.
Incumbent will publish and present research results on peer-reviewed papers at meetings, and work with a research team that conducts basic and applied research including semiochemicals and molecular research on diverse pests.

This position requires a recent Ph.D in entomology or molecular biology or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Basic requirements for the 0414 (Entomology) series are as follows: 1.Degree: entomology; or a related discipline of the biological or physical sciences that included at least 16 semester hours in entomology.
OR
2.Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major that included course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Basic requirements for the 0401 (Molecular Biology) series are as follows:
1.Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
2.Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
