The West Texas VA Health Care System (WTVAHCS), Big Spring, Texas provides a variety of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as offering numerous educational programs. Comprehensive outpatient health care is provided in areas of medicine, mental health, physical occupation, and speech therapies, prosthetics, audiology, laboratory/pathology, radiology, women's health, OEF/OIF/OND, Telepathically, anticoagulation clinics, social work, ophthalmology, cariopulmonary, pharmacy, and dentistry. A sanctioned Home Based Primary Care Program is in place. Inpatient care is provided in extended care, with referrals to other VISN 18 facilities and community services. Staffed with approximately 565 employees, the facility serves counties in West Texas and New Mexico, with a Veteran population of approximately 57,000. The WTVAHCS is part of the VA Heart of Texas Health Care Network and VISN 17 with Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's) located in Abilene, Odessa, San Angelo, Ft. Stockton and Odessa, Texas and Hobbs, New Mexico.

The West Texas VA Health Care System, Big Spring, Texas is currently accepting applications for the position of Nurse Practitioner, Mental Health Service. The Nurse Practitioner performs assessments and ongoing patient care for the Veterans of Mental Health, including the outpatient Mental Health Clinic and Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (domiciliary). He/she must have considerable knowledge, experience, and skill for concentrated effort and self-motivation to carry a full range of patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems and other services. He/she observes patients' changing conditions and health status; charting; assists with medication management, and use of therapeutic communication skills assist in identifying needs for in-service education and improvement programs and meets with physician(s) daily; and modify the plan of care in accordance with recognized standards and prescribed treatment plan. Certification in Mental Health is required for this position.
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm and may vary depending on the hiring facility.
A RECRUITMENT/RELOCATION MAY BE AUTHORIZED.

Nurse Practitioners:
(1) Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency, and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed: a) The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC); or b) The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). OR
(2) The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. OR
(3) In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted registration, will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
