- Modify standard computer-based files used for storage and retrieval of technical data and information;
- Evaluate and adapt precedents to meet information requirements for the Branch and Division;
- Modify and adapt databases to fill special needs for information from previous approaches to similar problems or projects;

This position is designated as Moderate Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation. We are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-12 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-11 level defined as maintaining and accessing an electronic database system pertaining to scientific and technical information; OR serving as a technical authority in indexing, cataloging, referencing, and controlling scientific research information.
To qualify for the GS-13 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-12 level defined as developing and/or managing an electronic database system pertaining to scientific and technical information; OR serving as a technical expert in indexing, cataloging, referencing, and/or controlling scientific research information; and performing various search methods to research, retrieve, and respond to multiple inquiries.
Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Knowledge of technical search engines and software applications; 2) Skill in using technical search engines; 3) Knowledge of automated information management concepts, principles, and data entry/retrieval techniques; 4) Ability to develop and maintain scientific databases; 5) Ability to serve as a technical authority in information research related to scientific and engineering processes; 6) Knowledge of contracting procedures, types, and methods.
