The Minneapolis VA Health Care System is seeking a gifted Anesthesiologist to Lead the Anesthesia Division of the Surgical and Integrated Clinical Communities. As Section Chief of Anesthesia, you will devote approximately 60% of your time to clinical anesthesia and 40% to administrative activities. The Minneapolis VA provides cutting-edge surgical and procedural care to veterans ranging from common outpatient procedures to complex cardiovascular, thoracic, general surgical, ENT, urologic, orthopedic, plastic and reconstructive, vascular, and gynecologic surgery.
The successful applicant must have significant recent experience delivering cardiac anesthesia including placement of advanced central monitoring catheters using ultrasound guidance as well as use and interpretation of TEE; experience supervising/teaching residents and student nurse anesthetists; training/credentials sufficient to support eligibility for an academic appointment with the University of Minnesota.
In addition, the successful applicant must have demonstrated experience in managing a busy anesthesia department/section.
Duties
Include the provision of clinical anesthesia services, overseeing the activity of nurse anesthetists, as well as teaching anesthesiology residents and student nurse anesthetists. Administrative duties include, but are not limited to, staff recruitment and development, staff performance evaluations, working with the Chief Nurse Anesthetist to manage department work flow and personnel issues, participation in University of Minnesota activities related to anesthesia resident training, development of department policies and procedures, communication and implementation of medical center policies and initiatives, and participation on medical center committees.
Possible Dual Appointment: This position may be considered for a dual appointment with the University of Minnesota. In that case, incumbent would be expected to work at both the Minneapolis VA and the University of Minnesota, and would need to meet requirements for separate appointments at each
institution.

Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
