    Responsibilities

    • Assist with the development and implementation of standardized monitoring programs for riparian and wetland ecosystems throughout the BLM.
    • Oversee field data collection logistics for the lentic (riparian and wetland) AIM program as it is implemented through national, state, district and field offices and/or contractors/partners.
    • Lead communication with various agency representatives, managers, and scientists throughout the BLM and with partnering agencies to ensure effective field implementation.
    • Oversee coordination with these multiple groups including ensuring training, equipment, and agreement/contracting needs are meet to effectively complete annual sampling.
    • Provide knowledge of and assist in development and implementation of protocols and trainings to ensure that data collected are consistent with the needs of the program.
    • Ensures that data collected are assessed for quality through a standardized quality assurance / quality control program developed by the data manager.
    • Assists in developing policies and procedures to determine how AIM may integrate into BLM public land management.
    • Oversees and may prepare contracts/agreements/MOU?s or other partnership/collaboration tools.
    • Completes purchase requisitions.

    Qualifications

    For the GS-11:
    In addition to meeting the education requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level or pay band in the Federal service). Examples of specialized experience include: Coordinating Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring Strategy field aquatic monitoring across multiple crews, including planning and managing logistics, ensuring training requirements are met, and ensuring work is produced accurately and in a timely manner.

    Education: 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree directly related to the position being advertised.

    Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Physical Demands: The incumbent will typically work in an office setting where some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items is required. Occasional travel to the field where physical activity involving walking long distances, bending, or climbing over rough, steep, and/or rocky terrain may occur.

    Work Environment: The work is performed in an office setting, but there will be occasional trips to the field. Field work may involve exposure to moderate risks and discomforts such as adverse weather conditions.

    Basic Education Requirement: This position has a positive education requirement which requires that you have a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, or a combination of education and experience---courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
