- Participating in the development of Program Announcements, Requests for Applications, and Requests for Proposals in areas of research.
- Communicating high level NCCIH priorities to the extramural research community in response to inquiries and refers individuals to subject matter experts, as needed.
- Coordinating with investigators, institutions, organizations and other government agencies engaged in assigned research activities and related fields, providing assistance to prospective grantees on various grant mechanisms/grant review processes.
- Conducting literature searches on relevant scientific areas; drafting and circulating approval memos; and tracking and incorporating suggested edits to initiatives.
- Coordinating the compilation and preparation of periodic reports; developing a system for tracking recurring requirements and progress toward fulfilling these; and conducting analyses relevant to the recurring requirements.

QualificationsBasic Education Requirement
In order to qualify for a Scientific Program Analyst, GS-0601, position you must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
In addition, in order to qualify for the Scientific Program Analyst at the GS-11 level:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal Government, performing the following types of tasks: participating in the planning, organization, and execution of activities that support scientific research and administrative activities; monitoring the status of project applications and awards from peer review through post-award administration; assisting in drafting technical reports, analyzing data from research studies, and publishing research findings; and assisting staff with various grants-related administrative activities, including preparing funding plans and gathering necessary supporting documentation from applicants or grantees.
You must have completed 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or, have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field.
You must have a combination of graduate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
In addition, in order to qualify for the Scientific Program Analyst at the GS-12 level:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal Government, performing the following types of tasks: monitoring the status of project applications and awards from peer review through post-award administration; carrying out assigned segments of complex studies covering a wide range of research topics; assisting in drafting technical reports, analyzing data from research studies, and publishing research findings; assisting the Project Scientist/Project Officer to support the management of research resources, technical administration and programmatic evaluation of funded grants; and serving as organization representative on various internal and external working groups and committees.
You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
