The Evidence-based Practice (EBP)/Pathway to Excellence (PTE) Program Coordinator functions as the organizational leader in the implementation and sustainment of the Pathway to Excellence Program.
The Program Coordinator utilizes healthcare leadership experience and a demonstrated ability to enact change to successfully implement the Pathway to Excellence standards throughout the organization.
The Program Coordinator leads diverse groups to collectively attain high-quality outcomes for the organization and nursing
service. The incumbent actively participates in committee activities as well as unit, service, and program-level quality
improvement processes. The Program Coordinator is included in the management of nursing performance improvement,
patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, and knowledge and application of accreditation and regulatory standards.
- Serves as the subject matter expert, facility coordinator, and champion for the Pathway to Excellence accreditation
and implementation. Responsible for educating and engaging the nursing service throughout the organization to
promote Pathway to Excellence standards and nursing excellence.
- Responsible for establishing project goals and timelines that move the nursing service toward the achievement of an
environment that reflects the organization's commitment to Pathway to Excellence.
- Responsible for data collection, compilation, interpretation, and dissemination of quality and service indicators
related to implementation of the Pathway Program throughout the organization.
- Works closely with the nurse executive, nursing leadership, and unit level nursing staff to implement and sustain
quality improvement initiatives that support the Pathway to Excellence Program.
- Provides leadership in the implementation of evidence-based practice and nursing research. Participates in
strategies to sustain an evidence-based practice culture.
- Leads the further development of a culture of EBP and integration of effective EBP nursing programs throughout WRJ VAMC.
- Subject matter expert on evidence-based practice and Pathway to Excellence standards; provide leadership and
guidance for policy/process implementation or changes.
- Collects practice data and quality improvement data systematically as internal evidence for clinical decision making
in the care of individuals, groups, and populations.
- Implements practice changes based on evidence and clinical expertise and patient preferences to improve care
processes and patient outcomes.
- Evaluates outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations to
determine best practices.
- Provides leadership and clinical expertise for practice and compliance with standards in preparedness for 'Pathway
to Excellence' designation.
- Utilizes critical thinking skills and sound judgment to ensure quality patient care services as related to EBP and/or
Pathway to Excellence standards.
- Collaborates with nursing staff throughout WRJ-VAMC to improve practice and process as related to nursing care
delivery.
- Collaborates with and assists others within or across work groups to validate and/or improve practice (solve practice
problems/issues) either on the basis of application of current research-based knowledge or the conduct of research.
- Promotes and assists staff in the application of evidence-based practice and/or research to current practice. Provides
consultation and guidance to programs, councils and committees, ensuring professional practice is solidly grounded
in the best available evidence suited for WRJ-VAMC.
- Shares information from evidence-based practice and/or research finding or special projects through presentation
(teaching) or publication.
- Is a key member of the facility and nursing service accreditation and performance groups.
- Provides oversight and leadership for the implementation, spread and maintenance of systems redesign processes
and techniques across Nursing service. Responsibilities include but not limited to: facilitating and supporting system
redesign projects and coaching/training nursing engaged work teams in the LEAN/Six Sigma techniques.
- Participates in the development and implementation of the strategic plan for the Nursing Service that is aligned
with the strategic plan for WRJ-VAMC. Plans and coordinates strategic planning sessions.
