    Responsibilities

    The Mexico Studies Program Administrator, serves as Director, Mexico Institute, performs the following essential duties and responsibilities of the position: 

    • Serves as the Wilson Center’s chief expert and strategist on matters pertaining to Mexico and US-Mexico Relations and serves as senior advisor to executive leadership of the Wilson Center on these issues.
    • Plans and implements programmatic activities related to Mexico and U.S.-Mexico relations, which include research and publications; conferences, seminars, and targeted briefings, involving individuals from the scholarly, business, media, governmental, and NGO worlds; and media and web-based outreach.
    • Develops original research in English and Spanish that informs policy discussions on key issues related to Mexico. 
    • Maintains an individual base of research and publications related to Mexico studies and represents the Wilson Center to outside contacts with funding sources, policy and business leaders, professional associations, and all other key constituencies.
    • Develops and executes fundraising strategies, primarily based on private donations from individuals, companies, and organizations, to maintain and expand the Institute and oversees all expenditures. Accountable for proper use of resources and donations and must report on fund usage and expenditures for all funds including any secured endowment monies. 
    • Works closely with the Mexico Institute Advisory Board to strengthen the Institute's programmatic initiatives and resources.
    • Oversees the operations of the Institute, including supervising and managing the performance of staff within the Institute.
    • Works in cooperation with the Scholars and Academic Relations Office to recommend scholars for appointments for periods of residency and cooperates in the administration of an annual international fellowship competition.
    • Collaborates on Center-wide projects, themes, special activities, and new initiatives that advance the Center's mission and interests, including issues of democratic governance, emerging economies, and energy that cut across Center programs.

    Qualifications

    To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the (3) criteria below:

    1. Selective Factors (SF):

    • Advanced degree (e.g., MA, PhD) in Political Science, International Relations, History, Economics or Public Policy related to Mexico, US-Mexico and/or Mexico-North America studies. 
    • Professional language proficiency in Spanish (reading, writing and speaking). 

    Applicants who do not meet the SF will not be eligible for further consideration for this position. This must be supported in your resume / CV and attaching a copy of your academic records showing conferral of the degree.

    2. Basic Requirement in A, B, or C below:

    The occupational series (0101, Social Science series) requires applicants to meet the basic requirement in accordance to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards:

    A. Degree: Behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position; for example, international relations or political science. (Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study with at least 24 semester hours of behavioral or social science courses); or 
    B. Combination of education and experience that provides knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field; or 
    C. Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

    3. Specialized Experience: You must have at least one full-time year (12-months) of specialized work experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: Providing strategic leadership and developing public programming related to Mexico studies / US-Mexico relations / Mexico-North America relations; conducting research for publication related on Mexico issues, US-Mexico relations and Mexico-North American relations; speaking about major issues in North America-Mexico relations and interacting proactively and effectively with high level officials, academia, media and public audiences; leading employees; and developing and implementing fundraising and outreach strategies, to include grant writing and administration, to sustain the operation of the Institute.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
