This is a Term appointment, not-to-exceed 13 months, which can be extended for a total appointment of 4 years.
Compiles resources, such as plans, lists, and reports needed to identify and prioritize refuge priority natural resources that occur on individual refuges.
Identifies and catalogs information needed to prepare conservation summaries for priority resources of concern from available sources, such as GAP analysis; geographic information system(s) analysis; and published literature.
Prepares preliminary draft summaries of the ecology, viability, threats, and contributing factors for each priority resource of concern.
Assists in the identification of priority refuge plant and animal species, species groups, and communities such as those identified in refuge purpose(s).
Provides technical assistance to planning teams in prioritizing refuge resources of concern.

Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resources management, or related discipline appropriate to the position being filled.
B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in biological sciences, agriculture, or natural resources - or at least 24 semester hours in biological sciences, natural resources, wild land fire management, forestry, or agriculture course work equivalent to a major field of study -- plus -- appropriate experience or -additional education that is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in the biological sciences; agriculture, or natural resources.
Specialized Experience Requirements: In addition to meeting one of the basic entry requirements listed above, you must have the appropriate specialized experience as described below.
You may qualify at the GS-09 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your ability to using of existing information to catalog conservations goals; cataloguing and compiling biological information from multiple sources such as scientific literature, conservation plans, and on-line system; delivering technical assistance to planning teams; providing assistance in the identification of priority refuge plant and animal species, species groups, and communities for local and regional geographic areas.; OR
- A master's or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited or pre-accredited college or university; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or possession of a LL.B. or J.D degree, if related. Graduate level education must demonstrate the competencies necessary to do the work of the position; OR
- A combination of education and experience as listed above.
1. Professional knowledge of the theories, principles and concepts of conservation biology; related disciplines of soil science, hydrology, plant and wildlife diseases, restoration ecology, forestry, rangeland management, and fire ecology; applicable laws and agency policies, objectives, planning, and management activities related to the National Wildlife Refuge System in order to work in a support capacity to higher level scientists in the data and information collection, compilation and analysis activities in support of the development of ROCs and inventory and monitoring plans.
2. Ability to communicate in writing in order to create correspondence, scientific, and administrative reports, management plans, and similar documents.
3. Knowledge of and ability to apply natural resource and refuge conservation planning principles, practices, methods, procedures, and techniques in order to support the identification of Resources of Concern and development of SMART resource management objectives.
