The incumbent serves as a multimedia reporter, editor, producer and/or host for the Zimbabwe Service, Africa Division. Incumbent has responsibility for researching, reporting, interviewing, writing, recording, editing and producing news and feature broadcasts, as well as preparing scripts and hosting segments and programs as needed. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Initiates coverage of news and feature stories in consultation with the Service Chief and Senior Editors. Working on tight deadlines, participates fully in coverage of major events, and in preparation and execution of daily programs.
- As a multimedia journalist, serves simultaneously as a solo reporter, writer, producer, and/or videographer for news and feature stories considered of a competitive quality level for the Africa broadcast market. Handles all technical elements and equipment on assignment.
- Initiates and conducts original interviews with a variety of news sources and subjects. Cultivates a variety of sources in Zimbabwe and the African continent and elsewhere, including area experts and analysts, and monitors daily newspaper, magazines, digital news sources, etc., to track news developments.
- Contributes production elements including editing of recorded material and production of live air shows. Writes, prepares and voices scripts, segments and interviews for on-air and pre-recorded programs.
- Hosts broadcast newscasts, prime-time programs, discussion shows, feature segments and interactive social media programs, as needed.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

Applicants must be bilingual in Shone or Ndebele and English with the ability to fluently speak, research, write and accurately translate in both languages and applicants must have one year of specialized experience which is directly related to this line of work or the following education requirements.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Specialized experience for GG-11: Applicant's fluency in the Shona or Ndebele languages must be demonstrated by writing and producing for radio, TV, Internet and social media stories/news analysis, and/or feature stories for a recognized news organization such as a daily newspaper or a weekly news magazine; or for a wire service such as AP, UPI or Reuters; or a TV station.
Specialized experience for GG-12: Applicant's fluency in the Shona or Ndebele languages must demonstrate journalistic news experience, specifically African and international news by conceiving, planning, researching, writing and producing highly-targeted original multimedia news stories and programs for live air.
Examinations Required: Candidates who meet all education and/or experience requirements at the GG-11 level, must demonstrate their knowledge and ability in language writing and translation/adaption through successful performance on a written examination and their ability to voice material for radio broadcast in a voice audition. You will be notified as to whether you will be scheduled for testing once qualification determinations have been made. Testing will be conducted by email and Skype.
Education requirements for GG-11:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related.
Combined Education and Experience for GG-11:
Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the experience requirements.
