This position is located in the Federal Electronic Health Record Modernization Program Office (FEHRM). The FEHRM was designated by the Secretaries of the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to support the delivery of a single, seamlessly integrated electronic health record (EHR) that maximizes commercial health record interoperability and to provide joint decision-making authority and oversight of the single Electronic Health Record.

The Director and Deputy Director are senior executives who oversee and manage joint EHR modernization programs for the Military Health System, VA and United States Coast Guard, which is under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The Deputy Director position is allocated to VA, and this official also reports directly to the deputy secretaries of both agencies.
The Deputy Director works closely with the Director to oversee and manage joint EHR implementation activities and support a diverse staff comprised of DoD and VA government employees and contractors. In the absence of the Director, the Deputy Director has equal authority to speak on all matters related to joint FEHRM efforts.
The Deputy Director will work in collaboration with the Director to oversee the programs necessary to achieve a longitudinal health record and maintain interoperability between community care partners, the VA, DoD, and any other participating federal agencies.
