    Summary

    This position is located at the Armed Forces Retirement Home - Washington (AFRH-W), Healthcare Services and provides social work services in a continuous care retirement community.  Social work services are provided to individuals in independent living, assisted living and long term care. Incumbent will need skills to work as an independent social worker in all levels of care. The work supports the mission of quality services to residents throughout the agency.

    Responsibilities

    As a Social Worker, you will:

    • Work independently to examine current standards of care, compliance with those standards, and development of new standards as necessary to meet the changing needs of the residents and agency. Develop and revises policy and procedure manuals.
    • Work collaboratively with department heads to review patient care activities with individual clinicians to ensure knowledge and compliance with standards.
    • Promote and ensure coordination of social work services in all levels of care; Conduct psychosocial assessments; Develop individual care plans based on assessed needs; Participate in interdisciplinary care teams; Participate in performance improvement; Serve as a member of health care leadership team.  
    • Actively participate in developing and maintaining public understanding and community outreach to influence public attitude and coordination with the agency.
    • Have knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis and use of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual 5R; Develop treatment plans based on psychiatric diagnosis; Work with residents who have dementia; Conduct groups that focus on a variety of social psychosocial needs.

    Qualifications

    You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

    Licensure:  Must possess a state issued Social Worker's license AND a Social Worker's license to practice as an independent licensed practitioner.

    AND

    Education:  Must possess a master's degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

    AND

    Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

    Working with a geriatric population where the incumbent was responsible for providing admission preparation, assessment, counseling, day-to-day assistance initiation and revision of care plans and integrate services to effectively coordinate resident/patient care.

    OR

    You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

    OR

    You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. This is creditable providing the combination consists of 100% of the requirement. Only graduate level education in excess of 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.

    In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-11, you must have been at the GS-9 level for 52 weeks.
     
    Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.

    Education

    Must possess a master's degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

    The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S Department of Education.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
